Kokoo Pa Farmers Association and its partner; Winrock International, commemorated the 2024 World Day Against Child Labour in the Adansi South District Assembly in the  Ashanti Region of Ghana. The 12th of June has been set aside by the International Labour Organization and its Constituents, since 2002, to mark the World Day Against Child Labour. 
 
The purpose of the commemoration was to help create broader awareness of child labour by accelerating efforts to eliminate the worst forms of child labour as a matter of urgency and to work progressively towards the total elimination of all forms of child labour, as enshrined in Target 8.7 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 12th of June has been set aside by the International Labour Organization and its Constituents, since 
2002, to mark the World Day Against Child Labour. 
 
The theme for this year was “Let’s act on our commitment; End Child Labour.” The theme seeks to create and intensify awareness, as well as pull together all efforts and resources to meet the 2025 deadline for eliminating child labour to its barest minimum. 
 
The commemoration sought to highlight the plight of victims of child labour, especially those in the worst forms of child labour. It provide the platform to stimulate the commitment of partners: government, employers’ and workers’ organizations, civil society groups, research institutions, opinion leaders, teachers, parents, children and development partners, and also protect and support children to develop their full potential and harness their abilities and capabilities. 
 
As part of this year’s commemoration, activities such as Radio Discussion, Community Durbar and Quiz competition were organized by the district assembly in collaboration with the MATE MASIE Project Partners to foster unity in the fight against child labour. 
 
All the various Coordinating Directors of the Adansi South District were actively present and pledged their unwavering commitment in fighting against child labour in their district. The Presiding Member of the assembly; Hon. Cosmos Amoah who came to represent the district chief executive stated that the government is seriously committed to the issues of child labour and is ready to partner with individuals and organizations to eliminate child labour in the district. Mr. Fidelis Yapel, Director from Winrock International and Mr. Frederick Amponsah, Executive Director from Kokoo Pa Farmers Association reaffirmed their commitments in helping to the cases of child labour down to its barest minimum. The chief of Odumase; Nana P.Y. Akorley and his elders promised to offer their support to the authorities in the Adansi South district in eliminating child labour.
There were also poetry recitals, drama and choreographic displays by pupils from the basic schools from the beneficiary communities of the MATE MASIE project within the Adansi South District to draw the attention of the general public to the danger of child labour and the need to nib the menace in the bud. 
 
These activities brought together School children, Community Child Protection Committee (CCPC) members from the various project communities; namely, Odumase, Agotimeh, Ahomahoma and Essongkrom, as well as the members of the District Child Protection Committees in the district. 
 
The quiz Competition was won by Agrave D/A Basic School in a contest involving, Asarekrom D/A JHS, Odumase D/A Basic School and Ahomahoma D/A School. The Participants and their schools were awarded with a set of jerseys and footballs, Medals and Certificate of Participation.
 
Parents and guardians could not hide their excitement about the amazing performance by their children. They also vowed in cooperating with the various authorities of the district in eliminating the menace.
 
The program was hosted at the Odumase School Park on Wednesday, 12th June, 2024.
